Because in summer, life is better by the beach. After being cooped up all Spring New Englanders are bursting onto the beaches and Plum Island is no exception.
Have you ever heard of Plum Island, Massachusetts? Tucked into the Northshore, Plum Island is a barrier island off the coast of Massachusetts. The island itself is split between the towns of Newbury and Newburyport (literally down the middle) and has enjoyed under the radar summers because Salisbury, MA and Hampton Beach, NH are ten minutes away and have toursit-trap inducing boardwalks with arcades. Newburyport however has it’s own unique attraction. As the founding city of the Coast Guard, the town not only hosts half of Plum Island with it’s beautiful beaches, the mouth of the Merrimack makes it a prime striper fishing destination and the quintessential New England brick building and cobblestone streets in-town make it even more picturesque than the arcade-filled towns just to the North. Worth the drive and here’s what to wear for a very relaxing weekend:
