Best of: NYFW Spring 2018

There’s nothing quite like New York Fashion week. London, Milan and Paris each have their own and each fashion week really brings out the flavor of each city. Fashion week happens twice a year and it showcases that newest styles of the designers in their element, their newest creations and sets the tone for the fashion trends for the following seasons. New York’s designers range from all about americana to glitz and glam and grunge and edgy which represents the melting pot we surely are. This years fashion week, my favorite shows really paid homage to our roots, from quintessential flowers, flowy dresses, jock jackets and oversized ball skirts I felt like the designers were staying close to the essence of classic american culture. We love to think we’re super edgy but really we’re colorful, sparkly, dramatic with a little bit of edge.

Here are a few of my faves: (all photos from Vogue Runway online)

Look 15 & 18
Look 26 & 41

Don’t let the colorful combos fool you, Coach has compiled pieces that will take you from season to season because at their core, they’re basics. Look 18 for example, leather jacket, layered over a silk bomber then paired with a sequin skirt and silky undergarments. Leather jackets and bombers have been a classic go-to since rebel with a cause and grease lightning. Sequin skirts dazzled onto the scene recently to be worn casually with a chambray skirt or cashmere sweater and silk stockings, well those can be kept private or layered under any skirt for a little extra warmth in the cold seasons. Coach is reminding us that the classics can always be updated, so be sure to get your leather jacket in a cool new color such as a deep burgundy and not be afraid to sparkle, even during your morning commute.

Libertine Look 2 and 27

True to himself, designer Johnson Hartig is a true artist. The collection is unapologetically loud, colorful and eclectic, just as it has been for 16 years. This year he pulled inspiration directly from Andy Warhol with banana embellished clothing, lots of color and what’s studio 54 without sequins?

Frame Look 8

My family and I had the opportunity to take and amazing family vacation to Greece this summer and while Frame’s look 2 and 3 instantly transport me back to the white facades of Mykonos, they also speak to the poolside party in New York’s Hamptons or beachside drinks on the Connecticut coastline.

New York fashion week, stayed true to the best of America’s trends and tastemakers, well done.
